Mission San Jose was founded in 1795 on the land that would eventually include Fremont. For decades, the mission thrived until the Mexican government’s secular influence took over. During the California Gold Rush of the mid-1800s, Fremont flourished, expanding rapidly as more and more people moved into the area. The city was incorporated in 1956 and quickly developed in the years that followed.

Today, Fremont is a richly-developed suburban city with connections to Silicon Valley—it’s known as “Tesla Town” due to the Tesla factory located nearby. Homes in the area are typically priced in accordance with Silicon Valley’s high cost of living—you can expect to pay into the millions for a family-friendly home. Many historic and cozy ranch-style houses are located in Fremont, and luxury condos are available as well.

Ring in the holiday season with the Niles Canyon Railway Train of Lights, a festive hour-long train ride that’s fun for passengers of all ages!

One of the most popular local parks is Central Park, located on Lake Elizabeth and featuring picnic areas, a seasonal waterpark, and boat facilities. Take a brisk hike along the Alameda Creek Regional Trail, enjoy water recreation at Quarry Lakes, or bike and jog at Coyote Hills Regional Park. More serious hikers can also tackle Mission Peak, which features tougher trails.
