Mission San Jose was founded in 1795 on the land that would eventually include Fremont. For decades, the mission thrived until the Mexican government’s secular influence took over. During the California Gold Rush of the mid-1800s, Fremont flourished, expanding rapidly as more and more people moved into the area. The city was incorporated in 1956 and quickly developed in the years that followed.

Today, Fremont is a richly-developed suburban city with connections to Silicon Valley—it’s known as “Tesla Town” due to the Tesla factory located nearby.
